The 5 Areas of Learning

Practical Life
  • At Dragonfly Montessori, children move independently in the practical life area choosing to practice interesting skills, such as how to put on your own coat and safely pour liquids.
  • Happy and confident children gain muscle and coordination to do many tasks and challenge themselves.
​Language
  • Dragonfly Montessori Children gain in vocabulary speaking with guides and other children discussing their work and play.
  • Each child learns to read and write in many ways, including learning to build word patterns then create and read their own books.
  • ​Patterns of speech and new words in English and Spanish in books and songs increase their ability to learn more. Being surrounded with language and meaning elevates language ability-ies.
Science
Dragonfly Montessori children explore the outdoors in our beautiful playground, lush vegetable garden, our chickens, rabbits, and other creatures. There is so much to learn, measure, observe, and test scientifically. Indoors, they read and sing about weather recording, dinosaurs, insects, and birds, rocks, then observe them in real life.. well maybe not dinosaurs!
Geography
  • Children will learn about different landforms, making models. Dragonfly Montessori children will especially learn about Logan and Cache Valley. Utah is very geographically diverse and we will learn what a beautiful world it is. Our guides appreciate different cultures but none better than our own here in Cache Valley.
Sensorial
  • Dragonfly Montessori children love to learn about their senses and objects color, shape, size, texture, and depth of perception. Geometric shapes increase in size and depth and can be independently tested by the children
  • ​Sensorial tools are a beautiful way for children to learn geometry and graduating sizes.
Math 
  • Dragonfly Montessori is so much more than paper and pencil! The child's math brain absorbs the deeper meaning of numbers and math by building and comparing numbers. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing are done naturally with Montessori math materials.
  • Math work can be big and important, such as number rods on their rug, or smaller and precise, such as golden beads.
Art & Music
  • Art may start with scribbling and clay, but dragonfly Montessori child learn how to perceive and draw surprisingly well! With different mediums, they gain confidence to create something beautiful!
  • Music is part of our day! We sing songs for fun and to learn. Dragonfly Montessori Children also begin to learn how to play different instruments.
  • ​Children will come home singing!​
